Operation get the fcuk out of here!
Melbourne, Victoria
Hello one and all from Jonny, Simon, Gary (and the recently departed Gavin). Last time we updated this we were in Tasmania, about to get jobs and live the Tassie dream. Well, needless to say everything didn't go quite according to plan!
Grape picking in Josef Chromy vineyard was certainly not what we expected. Back-breaking labour coupled with poor pay, an unreliable car and the unexpected loss of work meant our time there lasted for 8 days in total. So after some deliberation we decided to up sticks and move on again. Due to the financial backlash of having no income, we lost a member of our group with Gavin returning to the green, green grass of home.
A few days after his departure we left Tasmania and ventured North in our recently fixed (and very beautiful) 1989 Subaru L-Series Estate Wagon, Michelle. The journey was fairly uneventful and we arrived in Melbourne last Thursday. The first thing we did in Melbourne was probably the most exciting, taking our beloved Michelle for a spin around the Albert Park F1 track, where only a few weeks prior, Jenson Button had won the Australian Grand Prix. Sadly there were no fastest lap times however I'm pretty sure we would've beat Lewis Hamilton!
After Albert Park we settled into our hostel and set about organising our week of sight-seeing and activities in Melbourne and Thursday night we had our first night out in about a month when we went to see European DJ Trent Moller. Friday was spent at the park and later at the bar where we met up with Travis, an old friend from Northern Ireland.
Saturday was spent at the Etihad Stadium where we watched our newly adopted AFL team; The St. Kilda Saints destroy the West Coast Eagles. It was a super game and no doubt the boys in Brisbane will be shaking in their boots when the Saints meet the Brisbane Lions! On Sunday we drove the Great Ocean Road and seen some spectacular coastline and great scenery (which was pretty boring to be honest).
Monday was spent at the home of Australian TV when we went on a Neighbours tour. We saw Ramsay Street, some of the set and met a few cast members. Monday night was also spent with some Neighbours related fun when we went to the Neighbours quiz, which was a cheesy experience to say the least with a live performance from Paul Robinson included.
Now we are heading to Sydney before venturing up the coast to meet up with boys again and hopefully get some jobs (which I'm sure will leave the parents breathing a huge sigh of relief). Anyway, we will update you all again soon, bye bye!
