On the last night of Ella we went to this rustic old cafe lodge for dinner. We both had a roti. Charlie's really enjoyed his Sri Lankan one. I had a mojito with ice from the tap.... ! There was a live singer who sang stand by me, wonderful tonight and follow me. After an hour he'd have a break and then repeat the same list.... But it was still good.

We packed up our things, had a good sleep and woke early for the taxi ride. Unfortunately, I had a bit of a tummy ache. It was a 5hour taxi for £75. There is no train that headed south and the bus was a lot longer. I was looking forward to seeing the country and travelling in a little comfort.

The taxi driver was quite unusual. He wanted to seize this opportunity to really dissect our cultural differences... And nothing seemed to be off limits. Here are a selection of questions we had: How often do you bath? How many times a week do you eat rice and curry? How much money do you spend every month on your outgoings? Do you like my Toyota? What is the next job you want to do? What religion are you? What do you think of Teresa may and David Cameron? Are your parents happy with you living together? The taxi driver said divorce was very high in England and he asked us why this was. He said English people were very professional and very polite.

It was quite a tricky conversation. He asked me what I said to Charlie the second day I met him. By the end I was quite tired. Then we arrived in a huge stylish villa in the middle of quite a tired place! this place is very luxurious. The hallway is like an art gallery and the furniture is very stylish. These beautiful flowers were scattered everywhere, and they smell really sweet. They are called plumeria and you can only grow them in the uk in the conservatory. Here they call them temple flowers and they have six trees growing them outside. They use them for decoration, during breakfast, on the bed, everywhere. We went for a meal out on a beach and then went to bed.

The next day we just relaxed all day and got some reading done. It was nice to take a day out.
