Hello there,
Well, we had a very uneventfull flight to Bangkok and landed at about 11pm, just in time to catch the last bus into town. We got there and went to the guesthouse we had stayed at 3 months before which was nice. They even remembered us. It was so nice to be back. All the lovely (and horrid) smells and the warmth and farmiliar sounds n sights. We crashed out pretty quickly after a day of travelling on trains, buses, ferries and planes, but it was actually the easiest journey we've had in our whole time out here!
Most of our time spent back in Bangkok was just chilling out, watching the world go past from well picked cafes and restaurants. We ate some great food, for good prices which was really nice after China & Hong Kong. It was really nice to be back somewhere that we recognised and knew our way around, was sooo easy to do everything, we even remembered some of the bus numbers lol.
We only left the area we were staying (near Khao San Road) twice this time, as we had seen all the sights that were worth seeing already, and to be honest... we really didn't want to visit another temple! We must have been to about 50-60 since we've been here, and as lovely as they are to look at, they all start to look the same. We did decide to go to 'Chatuchak Market', which was wicked!!!! Went there last time we were in Bangkok, and it really is shopping paradise, 15,000 stalls selling everything from clothes to lizards to washing machines! Goes without saying that we did a bit of shopping.
We also went to the famed 'Patpong alley', which is were the supposedly 'more touristy strip clubs' etc are located along with a street market. Thinking it might be a bit of a laugh, and interesting to see we headed down there, expecting it to be packed full of tourists (our guidebook recommended it saying popular with tourists and couples), however the tourists were pikey looking middle aged couples, or dirty old men that looked like they might pass something on just by looking at you! Wasn't quite what were expecting (at all), but was definately an eye-opening experience! Strolling around the market, there were blokes constantly coming up to you with little cards trying to get you to go to a 'ping pong show' (if you don't know what it is, don't ask lol). We left after about a half hour lol. Interesting though!
Anyways, we had booked our train for Malaysia (yay) so spent a couple more days waiting for a ticket to become available and wandering round markets and eating good thai food. Was lovely to have some proper noodles mmmmm, and green curry! Were very excited about going back to Malaysia though and the train journey was the last long one of the trip (23 hours) which was a breeze... used to it all now! Even going to London on a train before we left felt like a long journey!
Last country on our trip, very sad, but also a great sense of acheivement having completed the BIG circle. One last blog soon, and then back home..... Ahhhhh!
Love you all greatly, and looking forward to seeing you. You can keep the weather to yourselves though.... BRRRRRR!
