Hello everyone
So we left Byron bay very early at 7am and drove for a few hours until we got to Spot X surf camp at 10:30am. We checked in and went to our room… I say room, however it was actually a shipping container modified to be a six bed dorm. It was clean and comfortable which is all we needed. The surf camp was in the middle of nowhere with nothing else around it, therefore all meals are included which was good. After settling in we had some lunch which was an all you can eat buffet with salad and wraps and lots of meat to keep Ben happy.
Once the food had gone down we had our surf lesson at 2:30pm, we all got into our wet suits and the surf instructor went through the basics of 'waves' he taught us about currents rips and hand signals. Then we all grabbed our huge foam board and headed to the beach. It was sooo windy that we all struggled to keep control of the boards walking down the beach. Once on the sand we were all shown the basics of how to paddle and stand (pop) up on your board, on the sand it seemed so easy! Once we all understood the concept we got into the water. I was first up and im proud to say that I stood up first time!!!! The instructor did push me into the wave rather than me paddling but I was still very proud of myself! Ben had surfed before so he got the hang of it straight away and seemed to have a lot of fun catching the big waves. The lesson lasted nearly two hours which was great but very tiring. I really enjoyed it but don't think I'm a natural plus I'm not a fan of the salt water and waves hitting me all the time, I much prefer sunbathing with a cocktail hehe.
After our surf lesson we all had a nice long shower and chilled out in the outside area until dinner at six. Dinner was bangers and mash and just the warm hearty meal we needed after a long day on the beach. Later there was a bottle run were we all picked up some bears and chilled out around the fire. Originally we were meant to spend 2 nights here but as we realized there was nothing to do and buying another surf lesson was fairly expensive we decided to change our plans and leave for Sydney the next day.
We all slept very well that night and woke nice and early for breakfast. Some of the others had a morning surf lesson which we went and watched. Then we had some relaxation time in the sun before our greyhound bus arrived at 1:30pm. This coach goes from spot x all the way to Sydney which takes 11 hours!! I must admit that this was not the most exciting point in our travels, I managed to read the whole of the book 'the lost symbol' by Dan Brown and ben spent most of the time asleep. But eventually we arrived in Sydney at midnight and headed to our hostel for some more comfortable sleep.
From Spot x with love
