Nikki's World Travels
Ok so did the tour of the great ocean road. Had a really good time and took loads of photos!! We headed out of melbourne towards Torquay - home town of Rip Curl and went to Bells Beach where billabong hold surf comps every year so watched some young talented surfers practising - i joked that that would be me next year!! So after hitting the great ocean road (built by service men who didnt go into WWI) we stopped at some view points for photos, mainly Lorne and Apollo Bay where we stopped for lunch. The people on my bus were nice to begin with - there were 4 scottish guys, 2 aussie guys and 1 swedish girl who i felt really sorry for as she didnt q understand everything and the guys made lil effort to explain things to her so that was my job! Stopped at a rainforest walk and did that which was nice but just the same as the other rainforest walks i did up in queens land so nothing that different. Next we went to loch arch and saw some sites along the shipwreck coast. Next we headed to the hostel in Princeton - a very nice hostel indeed! In the one room there were bunk beds and a large double bed that me and the swedish girl flipped for and i go it - what luxury! After dinner and some cider we headed to the 12 apostles, which there are only 8 of now as they keep crumbling into the sea, to watch the sunset - the sunset wasnt that great but still got some great photos - after that it was back to the bar for some more cider before bed and oh how i slept well!!!
The next day was an early start. We went back to the 12 apostles to see the sun rise then onto the bay of martyrs where 100s of aborignals were killed and thrown into the sea - hence the name. Next went to london bridge - given the name as it used to lok like london bridge before parts of it fell into the sea. Funny story about that - a local businessman from melbourne told his wife he was going to sydney on buisness but instead he and hgis secretary came up ot the great ocan road for a romantic getaway - they and some other people were on the second arch of the london bridge when the 1st bit - the connecting bit fell into the sea. Now in oz when these things happen it is the media who always get there first so there was this man caught red handed standing on a rock in the ocean with his secretary on the news! We headed then to Warrnambool where we had some lunch and went on some boats around a lil lake before going to the Grampians National park where we saw wild koala - so cute!! After that we walked down to the mackens\zie waterfalls which were beautiful and even cast a rainbow over them so took some nice photos there too! And i thought that was it for the day but NO!! There was a 2km walk to the balconies which looked over some spectacular views of the national park so worth the walk really. We then went to the hostel in Halls Gap - really remote and such beautiful wildlife around and so quiet that it made a really nice change. We had a BBQ then i went to bed not long before 12 as v tired from the day.
In the morning i went outside with my brekkie to find kangaroo jumping about infront of me - shame i didnt have my camera on me! Then i donned my new hiking boots for the 4km hike we had infront of us - now this is where the scottish guys got weird on me. We started hiking and the swedish girl didnt come with us as she wasnt well so it was just me and them. Now these guys are big lads - i mean tall so the rocks were like lil stepping stones as for me they were like big boulders so they stormed on ahead trying to be the fiorst there. Now we had all morning to do the walk and i wanted to enjoy the scenery and see it for what it was and of course i was slower anyway. So the guys would wait impatiently at certain points and as soon as i reached them they stormed ahead again not letting me have a rea\st (they had rested while waiting for me). After the 4th time i was like (q nicely) look u have rested 3 times now and i havent as u keep storming ahead when i reach here so im gonna rest now for 5mins - you can go ahead as i dont mind! That was it for the rest of the day i was ignored and everything i said was either ridiculed or looked down on so i didnt say anything at all. So apart from that the tour was really good. We headed towards adelaide which took 5hrs 30!!! Arrived at about 6 after stopping off in Horsham for some lunch! Backpackers is nice but my bed sinks in the middle like all the others ones but so tired anyway that slept really well!!
So thats all from the great ocean road - tour company was really good and allowed loads of time to take photos and we werent rushed at all so would recommend them straight away!
Ill put the amazing photos up soon
love nikki
