Hey everyone,
Well we're currently at a free internet place so thought best to make the most of the free time as it doesn't come often!!
Okay so we left the horrible farm and headed down South along the west coast which is pretty spectacular..!! We saw a seal coloney, went to a place called the "Truman Track" which was just a really amazing and also saw some pancake rocks (hopefully the pics explain about the pancake part... it took me a wee while and a couple of explanations from jay)!!
So We arrived at "Barrytown" which would be our overnight stop only to be told that the town consisted of 1 pub and about 10 houses a population of 45...!! So seeing as though there wasn't much else to do we decided to do a fancy dress!! Well the boys did anyway and what a beautiful girl Jay makes... Purnima you always wanted a girl ay!! Hopefully we will be able to get the pics on here soon as they are hilarious!! Oh and before that we tried to head down to the beach to watch the sunset but unfortunatley these stupid clouds in NZ kinda ruined our view again... the bonfire was pretty cool tho!
We obviously didn't hang around for long in Barrytown and the next morning we continued our trip down the coast heading towards Franz Josef.. was a miserable day and it just rained rained and rained... so we the only stops we had were for food.!
Franz Josef Glacier is famous for being only one of 3 low lying glaciers in the World!! It's unique because around it is rainforest so it looks completely surreal to have this 13km long glacier surrounded by trees.!! We booked on the full day hike... after doing the 20k walk I was feeling well prepared!! This was slightly differenent though and we were feeling a little apprehensive when the guys who had done the full day hike told us that it was harder than the 20k walk!! :( Anyway we woke up to gorgeous sunshine again which was def a blessing as a full day on a glacier soaking wet would not have been my idea of fun! And the glacier itself was pretty stunning! We walked through caves, over thin ridges (I felt kinda close to the edge at some points!) and it was so cool! I hope the pics do it justice!
The next day we decided too have a chill out day cause our log-cabins at the hostel were so nice...who knew we'd get such luxury back-packing! So we stayed an extra night just to make the most of it...
When we finally left Franz Josef, we continued south towards a town called Makaroua stopping at another few beautiful locations - a waterfall, freezing cold "blue-pools" and lake matheson which is SO stunning because it known for having a mirror like appearance...check out the pics! Jay got artistic as usual...:)
In Makaroua we had a karaoke night which would normally be nothing special but there was the incentive of winning a "mad-dog river rafting"...so we all got really into it and sang our hearts out...or as I do...scream and shout!
From makaroua we headed to Queenstown, where we are now, via a small town called Wanaka where our driver decided it would be cool for us to all go paintballing! It was alot of fun apart fron the fact that i forgot to wear my glasses and so couldn't really see a thing...which is not the best thing when people are firing stuff at you...but i didn't get shot too much and came out without any bruises which is quite good! :) As Jay was only one of two guys, one on each side, he got pretty competitive and like a general...telling us to "ADVANCE". WHAT A GEEK...but we won thanks to him!! (Jay wrote that last sentence if you hadn't guessed!!!) :)
So...in queenstown now which is known to be the entertainment capital of NZ....there are literally hundreds of different activities you can do here....including the 3rd higest bungy jump in the world...and SCARY 134m!! Nicky was umming and ahhing about whether to do it but with a little gentle persuasion from me she actually believed she would be fine to do it and booked it! I had originally decided to spectate only...but when people thought that i was scared to do it rather than the real reason which is I'm tight I thought that I might aswell go for it too!! :) MY WORD! Neither of us have ever done a bungy let alone one like this...seriously we almost touched cloth when we saw it for the first time!! And seeing as we had already paid by this time, there was no going back! Its STUPIDLY HIGH!! They made the group jump in order of weight, from heaviest to lightest so of course I jamp before nicky...IT WAS AMAZING!!! And so unreal to have to throw yourself off and freefall for 8.5 second before the cord kicks in...10m from the canyon floor! BUT I LOVED IT!.........then it was nicky's turn soon...you could see her face chaging as each person did it and her turn came closer...and it turned white when it was her up next...she was feeling sick, her heart was in her mouth...she could barely smile...and I definitely think she wet herself a little! :) anyway...she got to the edge and surprising on the first count threw herself off! I'd like to say her experience was as good as mine but I'd be lying...when she got back up (still upside down cause she'd frozen and didn't pull the little cord which puts you in a sitting position) there were no smiles...probably closer to tears! She was speechless...which as you all know means somethings not right! Anyway, shes really please she did it but is quite certain that she'll NEVER do anything like that again! She doesn't get why anyone in their right mind would want to experience falling to their death...that fast! haha :)
Anyway, shes speaking again now, and back to normal! We'll get some pic of the jump plus all the other great place we talked about. Sorry if we bored you with all that above!
Take care all and lots of Love J & N xxxx
