The drive from Copan to Antigua was a little scary as the driver had to navigate the roads through a tropical storm - rivers flowing on the roads through Guatemala City. A quick glance at Guatemala City made us grateful we decided not to visit or stay there!
Antigua is a place of rare beauty, pretty buildings and cobble stones - fast becoming a theme across Central America.
However, when we arrived it was still pouring down with rain and we had no choice but to navigate the streets getting soaked until we arrived at our Backpackers.
After the usual routine of wandering around, grabbing some dinner we headed back to our hostel where we chilled out, experienced a long power cut leaving us in the dark, it's been that long since we've had a power cut that we have to mention it on here!
Come 1am, Nick was itching furiously leaving Helen no option but to turn the lights on - after some searching we found two adult bedbugs crawling...we thought we had left the nightmares of Mersing behind...obviously not! We decided to try and sleep with the light on, no more bites - result! The following morning we checked out and found another hostel, both of us checked our bags over and it seems no bedbugs have hitched a ride on our backpacks. *fingers crossed*
The day was spent exploring Antigua and it's many churches. We visited the market where we made some purchases. Helen misses the markets of Asia. We completed some errands and booked our outwards travel to Lake Atitlan, Chichicastenango and back to Antigua.
The following day, our shuttle bus picked us up for Lake Atitlan, San Pedro La Laguna to be exact.
