From Foz do Iguaçu we headed 24 hours north to a small village in the Pantanal region. It was in Bonito that we went snorkelling in the Rio da Prata, with crystal clear water enabling us to see various fish and the bubbling sands of the underground water source. Nic was even lucky enough to see an alligator swimming 15 metres in front of her ... though she didn't feel too lucky at the time! Under the water it was very peaceful as we were carried along by the rivers' current, but with your ears above the water you could hear nothing but the sounds from the surrounding rainforest (including cheeky monkeys), and the odd companion clearing their snorkel!
That night we were introduced to a new taste sensation ... the Açaí berry! Everywhere in Brasil they make delicious ice cold smoothies from these amazing berries, and from the first taste we were hooked.
