Arrived in Perth on the 13th of June and spent the weekend there by the seaside at Scarbourgh Beach, had a BBQ with Corey's friend and did a big shop for the camper.
On Monday we hit the road and arrived in Jurien Bay for a beautiful sunset by the water, there were seals playing in the water! The next day we had a long drive (the length of Ireland) to Monkey Mia, a Kangaroo passed our path luckily no collision! We woke up the next morning, very early to see the Dolphins who come in for a feed and they come up right to your feet, amazing. After that we made our way to Carnavon, saw lots of dead Kangaroos it looks like ripped up teddy bears along the road. We fished the next day in Carnavon, unfortunately didn't catch anything but we had fish and chips that night.
On Friday evening we arrived in Coral Bay, the Ningaloo Marine Park. The next morning we went out on a boat to the Ningaloo reef, we snorkelled to Manta Rays, Turtles and lots of fishes plus a reef shark. On the way to the reef we say a family of Humpback whales, we saw one jump up as well- fantastic. We spent the next couple of days in Coral Bay, beautiful beaches. We then continued up to the Exmouth and pick up our prawns and headed to Cape Range National Park, where the beautiful Turquoise Bay (snorkelling at your feet), Oyster Stacks and Pligramunna beaches are.
The next day we had long drive to Dampier and met a real typical aussie bloke at the caravan site, he couldn't get to grips with my name. The following day we came across a gem of a place, Cape Keraudren National Reserve not advertise much to the regular tourist. We got talking to the Ranger, Lance, whom was very impressed with Corey and her Zoology degree. He greeted us wearing shorts with a broken fly and a knife attached to his belt and was telling us some great stories about him riding on whales and dolphins. In the park there are 15 different species of Kangaroo. At the park we camped up on 80 mile beach- beautiful beach and there were turtle tracks, has the turtle eggs have just hatch. That night was beautiful, I've ever seen so many stars and lots of shooting stars.
On Friday the 26th we headed to Broome, we left the park and Lance told us about a dead Kangaroo killed by Aboriginal tribe for the craic. A woman tribeoccupied the land, so that weekend they will arrive on the site and burn it and put new sand over it with no help from their men. We arrived in Broome that night at Cable Beach (one of the Top 5 Beaches in the World) and there was a party on the beach so we joined everyone by the bonfire. We spent the next few days in Broome, a small town with beautiful beaches (Reddell Beach in particular), Gatheaume Point and Sun Pictures, one of oldest picture galleries (cinema) in the world.
On the 29th we hit the road again passing by lots of Aboriginal communities and stopped off at Fitzroy Crossing, in the supermarket there was basic information for the Aboriginal women on what to feed their babies (they don't have much education on the matter); Emus, lizards and Turtles are fine to eat after 11 mths!! We arrived in Kununurra after a great scenic drive through the Kimberly, we had a great caravan park with a view of The Sleeping Buddha. There we also came across some freshwater crocs fighting in the water-scary! The next day we visited the Mirma National Park, a mini Bungles Bungles (big sandrock formations).
We made our way to the Northern Territory on the 2nd of July and on the way to Katherine we picked up a hitchhiker. Her name was Ruth, really nice Israeli girl who just got out of the army. She had been to the Gaza Strip helping the civilians and preparing them to find the nearest bomb shelter (they only have 5 seconds to do so). The next day we went to Edith Falls in the Nitmiluk National Park, amazing place, it looked like something out the Garden of Eden.
We then made our way Litchfield National Park, we arrived at our caravan park and were informed of music festival that was going on in the park - A Bush Party - so we went that night and had a great time. At Litchfield we visited lots incredible waterfalls and rock pools; Wagni Falls, Tolmer Falls, Tabletop Swamp, Buley Rockhole and Florence Falls. Litchfield was on of favourite places, a must see!
The night of the 5th of July we headed for Darwin and stayed Siobhan's until the 8th. We had a fantastic time in Darwin, a very small city with a really good nightlife. It was great to see Siobhan, she's loving it up there and has a nice boyfriend who works with her.
On the 8th we made our way back to Melbourne and back to work for a while.
