No snow overnight :( but still a cold start to the morning. We had to scrape ice off the car before we could get going. First stop was to the lookout overlooking Lake Tekapo and the surrounding mountains. Gorgeous views but boy was it cold up there. The puddles of water in the gravel car park were iced over. The first part of our drive today the landscape was brown and looked rather barren but that soon gave way to the green rolling hills of patchwork green dotted with white sheep. We took the scenic route and stopped at Geraldine for morning tea. This was a nice little town a little larger than most we've seen along our way and a pleasant place to stop and we even managed a little retail therapy at one of the little gift shops. As we got closer to Queenstown we saw the familiar sheep farms with their paddocks fenced by immaculate pine hedges - we saw these on our trip west on the train. We've decided they must have some sort of tractor/machine that does the hedges for them as some are quite tall. I guess they act as wind breaks as well. We arrived back in Christchurch, staying just near the airport as we have an early flight back to oz in the morning. After dumping our gear we jumped back in the car and headed towards the city centre. We couldn't get far though as the city centre is still blocked off from the damage from the February earthquake. We still saw quite a lot of damaged buildings and it is sad that most of them are the old buildings, they have lost these beautiful old historic buildings. A quite night in spent in our three bed apartment one our final night in NZ.
