Bus - Day 19 - 18/10/2012 (Thursday)
Our bus from BA left about 3pm and ended up being 21 hours. To be fair it's the nicest bus we have had so far. We had fully reclinable seats and they served us food (all be it rather strange) and drink in our seats.
Bariloche - Day 20 - 19/10/2012 (Friday)
We arrived into Bariloche about 11 and went straight to the hotel. Sarah and I were on the top floor and had a view over the lake and snow covered mountains. We then went straight out for lunch.
That afternoon we had a wander around the lake and the town. This place is famous for its chocolate but no where was giving out free samples. We had to do wash almost everything we own so took that to get washed.
We had a few hours to kill before dinner so went to Simons room and had a few drinks. That night we went to another steak house and we another huge steak!
Bariloche - Day 21 - 20/10/2012 (Saturday)
We decided to go for a hike to see a glacier. It was fairly close to where we were staying but on the other side of a big lake and as such it took 2 hours to reach. Most of the journey was off road so it was a bit of a bumpy ride in he mini bus. The scenery was very much like New Zealand. Forest in the lower ground and then snow covered mountains in the distance. Our hike took 2 hours and for some reason this random dog joined us and came the whole way with us. Mostly up hill and through the forest. We finally arrived in a 3 sided valley and at a certain point we had to stop as at the top of the valley was the glacier and lots of snow which could of fallen at any time. We stopped to eat our pack lunch and to take in the views. Typically it started raining as soon as we stopped!
The walk back took another 2 hours. Once we were back at the mini bus we got taken to another glacier. This one was far more impressive as you could see how far it went and all the ice was black as it had ripped up so much of the rock and it had all become mixed up. 2 hours later we were back in town. It was already quite late but it's customary to eat late in Argentina.
Bariloche - Day 22 - 21/10/2012 (Sunday)
God knows what we were thinking but we decided to go horse back riding. It's something you have to do in Argentina and as it was our last day we went for it. We were picked up and taken to this ranch right on a massive lake. The water was so still and clear you could see the reflections of the mountains in it. It was so amazing. We didn't have long to take in the scenery as we had to start our ride. We walked to the stables and I got picked first. I got given the biggest bad evilest looking one. However once I got on I could tell it was really docile. Alice was picked next and would not stop screaming each time her horse moved an inch. I couldn't help but laugh. Sarah was left to last and seemed to get the smallest horse of the lot. Once every one we ready we set off without being given any instructions on how to get the horse started. I guess they'd done this walk so many times as soon as the first one left they all started following. It was a really strange experience at first but I soon got used to it. We walked through the woods and into a big open field. My horse was really thirsty as it kept leaning down to drink every time we went through a puddle or a stream. A few people got quite far ahead but no matter how hard I tried I could not find 2nd gear on my horse. I soon worked out it had 2 speeds. Slow and stop. It was a normal horse ride until we reach this steep incline down to a river that we needed to cross. It was quite hairy going down and mine decided the 50 gallons of water it had already drunk wasn't enough so it bent down to get even more. The ride lasted almost 2 hours and towards the end we were all starting to get sore from sitting in the saddle to long.
Once the ride was over we were treated to a BBQ and more views of the lake.
Today was one of our groups birthday (Alice) so we'd decided to throw her a surprise party. A few of us went to the supermarket to get supplies. Alberto ended up buying way to much stuff and it cost a fortune. We went back and setup everything in Simons room and then waited for Alice's room mate to bring her. She was shocked and had no idea we were doing this. Not going to say much about the party as the pictures speak for themselves.
