Been a while since my last blog - a whole weekend in fact which was taken up by my Mojosurf trip - as it turned out to be in the middle of nowhere (more about that later!) I had no phone signal and there was no internet = no way of staying in touch with the outside world...!? Worth the wait though, especially the move up north on Friday 22nd Jan, keep reading and im sure by the end you will be falling off your chairs laughing with tears streaming down your cheeks....Promise!?
And so the story goes.............!
All packed and ready to leave Bondi Beach this afternoon, I will miss it but after my surf lesson that mornin (more about that comin up!) I was looking forward to heading up to Byron Bay for a Mojosurf weekend.
So, feeling good and not at all hugover after last nights drinking games - very surprised! The other guys were not so lucky as they decided to head to a club in Sydney - and went without us... The Fools!!!
At breakfast one guy was really looking worse for wear, feeling hungover and guilty for abandoning us (U know who you are - Tom?!) and so offered to teach me to surf as a way of trying to gain forgiveness. Was fun, and as I managed to catch my first wave and Tom was 'Wiped out' I think it was a success for both of us.!! This gave me an idea of what to expect on my weekend surf trip and so heading back on the bus to Sydney to catch the Mojo bus I was looking forward to it unaware of what was lurking around the corner...?!
Little did I know that the stat of the trip would not in anyway go anything as expected...!!
Meeting the bus driver I asked how long the journey would take? Thinking only a couple of hours, turns out it would be around 6 hours!? Asking how many people would be in the group? I thought he said 8, turns out he said 80!!!!
Okay..........?! So, onwards we went, meeting the 'Big Green' bus at Manly Beach (where the driver got lost en-route!) and picking up the rest of the group. Yep, that really looked like 80 people waiting with their bags by the side of the road. As I went on to find out later, they were no ordinary English speaking people.... Nope, they were all Swiss...?! And so, for me and an Irish couple this made for interesting conversation (or at least the many attempts at trying to have one, to understand and be understood) !!!!
On the bus along the way between surf movies, lots of noise and beer (the Swiss) and trying to sleep (me, due to late night drinking the night before and an exhausting first attempt at surfing that morning!). We had one service stop, one pub stop (where it decided to rain for the first time since I'd been in Oz the minute we stepped outside!) and one petrol stop, finally making it to camp at 2am - turns out, around 6 hours journery time was more 9 hours!!!!!!
Arriving, I didn't think it could get much worse as I was already tired and cranky!! Turns out, it could...........!!!!!!!!!
The campsite was literally in the middle of nowhere, out in the Australian outback, with nothing but bush and beach for miles around! (Just what I'd hoped!!) Checking in I was told along with the rest on my bus we would be in the bunk-house - outside of the main beach house and the bathroom was outside?!!
Great! could this get any worse..?! (Well...? wot do u think...?!) Of course, turns out it could!!!
2am and we had to make our own beds up for the weekend???!! However, with thoughts in my head of massive bugs, muddy brown tap water in the bathroom and big frogs living in the toilet - it certainly wasn't the best nights sleep.................?!!!!!!!
Having to be up for surfing at 6.45 was just the whipped cream and cherry on top of a delightful trip!!!!!!
Well....., im sure as promised, you are all rolling around laughing with tears streaming down your cheeks now, so.. that was the long story.......... the short story = nightmare!!!!!
Funny now, but really had to be there to believe..............!
