The first thing we noticed upon arriving in Singapore was the stifiling heat and humidity. Welcome to South East Asia!
We started exploring the city and headed to the Singapore flyer (think the London Eye but much bigger!). We met up with some of the girls from Fraser and their boyfriends, who had just arrived from the UK. We sampled some traditional Singapore food fin this traditional market style area - we both were a little apprehensive about the rest of Asia trip after trying the fish balls!
Even though we had only been in Singapore for half a day we had already learnt that it was best to move from air-conditioned mall to mall or to use the MRT, walking the streets for too long was not an option.
On our disjointed journey from mall to mall we stumbled across the famous Raffles Hotel and ducked inside for a Singapore Sling and a few peanuts. The following day we went to Singapore Zoo - which was fantastic. Most of the animals were in exhibits like in usual zoos but then also there were some animals that were free to room in certain areas of the zoo. This was really cool as it didn't seem like the animals were in captivity and you had to be on the look out for any cheeky monkeys. foillwoing this we went to the night safari - which us allowed us to see the nocturnal animals when they were a little more lively. Our final day was spent exploring the city, looking at the old colonial buildings etc. and that evening we get the overnight train to Kuala Lumpur.
Having only just over a day in KL we raced off to see the Petronas Towers, we also saw China town and a few temples. We both agreed that this was long enough in KL as it was dirty, bery hot and smelly - Natalie even said it smelt like a pet shop. We were looking forward to going to Thailand!
