Stop 7: Boston
We were lucky to arrive in Boston free people.... We arrived into the greyhound station where Nat attempted to take a photo of the bus as a keepsake of the hungover bus journey of DOOM - only to be shouted at by some officious (read jumped up) bus attendant who threatened Nat with 'Homeland Security' for committing the 'serious felony' of photographing the bus... Err what?! Naturally we both laughed loudly in his face, sure he must be joking - Americans love a bit of law and order, but to this extent?! He repeated the threat and advanced to take the phone from Nat whilst ordering her to delete the picture immediately.... We finally grasped that he was actually serious, stopped cackling, and deleted the photo before skedaddling.....
Sadly nonstop torrential rain severely hindered our ability to fully appreciate all that Boston had to offer, but what we did see we really liked. Around storms we visited the Italian District; Harvard University - home of Nat's childhood dream to study law there; cocktails at Top of The Hub - a bar at the top of the Prudential Building (Boston's tallest building); saw the famed Cheers Bar (not sure we're old enough to remember Cheers though!); ran round Boston Common (in the rain, now THAT'S dedication) and tasted a few of the delights on offer at the Quincy Food Market.
Highlights include our Italian feast at an amazing little Italian in the Italian district, and enjoying one of Mr Bartley's famous burgers - a popular Harvard burger joint filled with students. Frankly the intelligence pulsating throughout the room made us feel a little intimidated!
Next stop - hold on to your hats, these two blondes are hiring a car and attempting to drive the New England coastline!
