I had heard very mixed things about Brisbane and so for this reason decided to just spend the weekend there from Friday - Sunday. The hostel was a sharp shock to my system after the beautiful apartment. I was in a ten bed mixed dorm, and in the room there wasn't as much as a mirror. As it's in a city, the hostel was huge with each floor of about 200 people sharing the bathroom facilities. The people in my room were very friendly though and I went out with some of them on my first night.
On Saturday, my only full day in Brisbane it was time to get exploring. I went on a long walk around the city. Stopping to watch lots of the street performers and take lots of pictures. I went to Brisbane Botanical Gardens which were far better than the one I went to in Sydney. Lots more wildlife - I saw huge lizards and massive birds all roaming around unfazed by the metropolis setting they were in amongst. Then I went to the lagoon, or the "fake beach". Very odd. As Brisbane is not on the coast they have created a man made fake beach in the middle of the city by the river. Complete with swimming area, sand and lifeguards. It wasn't great weather though and so I feel like I failed to fully appreciate this location.
Then back to the bar under the hostel to watch the Lions game. My time in Brisbane was short but sweet. You don't need much longer than a few days here though.
