Today, well, plans changed. We left the beautiful La Posada Hotel in Winslow at 8am on our way to Amarillo, TX and were having a great trip UNTIL…..about 5.5 hours into our trip (with our windows rolled down, remember the a/c broke yesterday) we started smelling something burning. We were in the middle of New Mexico, Cuervo to be exact, and there was absolutely no cell phone service. We pulled off at an exit and noticed that there was smoke coming out from under the hood…..lovely. We drove down a service road until we saw a run down garage attached to a home. We pulled in and a man came out to see what was wrong. He couldn't fix our car, but amazingly enough his business was towing. What a blessing! We could have been on the side of the road with no cell phone service but God had delivered us right to this man's (Tony's) door. Tony loaded us into the cab of his tow truck and with Clara on my lap we drove to the nearest town (45 minutes away) to a garage that Tony trusted. He was so lovely, he delivered us there safe and sound. Looks like we aren't making it to Amarillo, TX after all.
We arrived at D & A Autocare in Tucumcari, NM at 4:30 and they took our car in to take a look (already a miracle that they would look at it because they were closing in 30 minutes). About 4:55 they told us that we would need to order some parts from Albuquerque. We gave the ok for the order and he made the call just before 5pm when the parts department closed. The miracles keep coming because the man that owns D & A Autocare gave us a ride in his truck to our new hotel, our Amarillo hotel let us cancel without a fee and we found a hotel near the auto shop that accepts dogs and has food within walking distance. We felt so blessed today. This could have been so much worse in so many ways. To top it all off when we got into our hotel room we look out over the New Mexico mountains and there is a big white cross on the hill. God definitely watched over us today! Now, tomorrow, instead of traveling to Little Rock, AR as planned, we will wait for our car to be finished (they say before noon) and head to Russellville, AR. We may be much poorer than we were a few hours ago, but we are blessed! What an adventure!

Karen Coleman Why I love you? Because you go with the flow. Life throws you a curve ball... you go with it! Your glass is clearly half full, not half empty!
Lori Hable How fun to get to follow your trip.... the unexpected is often the biggest treat (not that car trouble is a treat....). Bravo to you for recognizing the pluses among the minuses...
Deb Wiswell I think Kate and I stopped in Cuervo on our way West quite a few years ago. You don't forget a town with that name! Hope tomorrow is a better day!
Donna So glad NM treated you well!
