When we boarded our sleeper train we were excited to find we were staying in triple bunk cushettes. We were lucky enough to have the whole six birth cabin to ourselves. However the excitement was short lived when we tried to sleep.
For all you Harry Potter lovers we felt like we were on the night bus! We were being thrown around in our beds, but thankfully there were nets to catch us!
It goes without saying that Tom had no problems sleeping while me and Sarah found the constant screaming and clattering of the train a bit of a problem. It was definitely a fun experience though!
We were up at half five to get off the train and dumped our bags in a locker as soon as we could. After a quick breakfast we headed into the centre of Stockholm.
Unfortunately the relaxed atmosphere goes a bit too far and nothing opens until ten or eleven. Thankfully the city is lovely to walk around, especially the old part of town which is full of traditional crafty shops.
Me and Sarah are very proud of not entering a single familiar shop yet!
After a bit more wandering through the city, we decided that the best way to see as much as we could was on a tour boat that takes you around the islands that make up Stockholm. It was fantastic! Lots of history and fantastic scenery really made it worthwhile.
After that we had a quick lunch (not the Swedish meatballs Tom wanted), and headed towards the ferry to take us to Helsinki.
The boat itself was actually ok. The cabin was comfy and the entertainment of drunk middle aged Russians dancing was superb! After a couple of drinks we retired for the night and began looking forward to Helsinki.
