Started the road trip! Hired the car for a one way trip to Minnesota. Set off at 9.00am yesterday with my sister Gerry.

In the Nevada Desert on the way to Las Vegas we stopped at Calico, which was a ghost town. It had silver minings in the late 1800s but was virtually abandoned by about 1915. It has been renovated and was quite cool (but extremely hot(!!) at 100F). It must have been murder living there back then. Lower in the dessert the outside temperature reached 108F. Thank god for a/c.

We have had one night in Las Vegas which is not enough time to see much. We visited the Bellagio Casino and Caesar's Palace Casino. It is a mind boggling place. It seems to be one of the most efficient places in gthe world for separating people from their money. People were eager to hand over their money but were having a lot of fun so fair enough.

Not much time to write this as we have to hit the road. I'll try to continue tonight and will add photos.
