The drive from Merced took about 2hr 30mins, we had to pay $5 to enter San Francisco over a huge bridge. We checked into our hostel which were a pretty cool place with lots of room to chill out in. Then we made a big decision to take the car back to the rental office a day earlier as the parking fees in the city were ridiculous. By doing this we probably saved a little bit of money. We then went for a little wander around trying to find somewhere to grab tea, we decided on thai, which turned out to be really nice.

The following morning Peter walked to the greyhound office to collect our bus tickets to Seattle, whilst Lucy got ready for a day walking up and down the steep streets of San Francisco.

We walked up and down.. up and down.. then up and down before coming across the 'crookedest' street called lombard street. The street is pretty crazy, it just tightly zig zags all the way down (we probably should have drove down it before taking the car back.' Then when we walked up Lombard street we walked back down towards the bay. From the bay we had good views of Alcatraz and the golden bridge. Unfortunately we couldn't get tickets to visit Alcatraz as they were sold out until 3 weeks later. We were a little gutted.

We then continued walking towards fisherman's wharf where there are a lot of seafood resturants and candy shops.. Peter bought some nerds!

On our way home we walked through Chinatown, which is just like every other China Town in every other city, full of chinese people and tacky shops. haha!! Later that night we decided to go to an American diner, seen as we hadn't been to a proper one since being in America. The diner was called Louie's. Lucy ordered a steak and got asked how she would like it cooking, so she replied 'rare'.. and as she said it the waitress gave her a funny look as though they never did steaks rare. Obviously they don't because it came cooked medium to well done!! Peter ordered fish and chips.. yes thats right he ordered fish and chips in an american diner.. What is he like??
