An early start had us at Coober Pedy by 9am for a coffee stop.
The next 250 kms seemed to drag on with a headwind as we drive toward building clouds and long sections that appeared flat as far as the eye could see but were slow long hills. It took an effort to keep the car at 90km an hour and seemed to drag on forever with such a bland treeless landscape. Just pushing the accelerator down was an effort.
We pulled up for lunch at the roadhouse at Glendambo - population 22,500 sheep, 2million flys and 30 Humans.
After we got back on the road we joined a convoy of New Age vans, another manta ray and a big red. Not sure if it was a tail wind or the ability to stay in the slip stream of the other van but the driving seemed a bit easier. There was also a little bit of scenery with several large salt lakes.
The other vans turned off at the Woomera turn and from here it was only another 173 Km to Port Augusta where we decided to make our stop after such a long day driving.
At the sight of the ocean we agreed a fish dinner was in order even if we didn't pack a fishing rod and found a campground at The Port Augusta Sports fields that only charged $7 a night if you were self sufficient.
The weather had certainly changed, after battling high winds all day it was certainly a lot cooler than the earlier part of the day. It wasn't raining but had been torrential all day according to a couple who had just arrived from Melbourne.
