After another early start to watch the sunrise reflect on the rock we slowly got ready to get back on the road. Refills for gas and water and a few food supplies and we were checked out by 10am.
Kings Canyon was the next destination so we only had around 300km today. Back up Lassiter Hwy to turn off and head north to Kings Canyon. We pulled up at Kings Creek Station for a drink and looked at their camels, horses, a donkey and a dingo pup.
We booked into an unpowered site ($55!!) as the park was pretty full and headed straight out to walk the canyon.
We took the Rim walk which was 6km and almost straight up for the first 100 metres. The view was amazing and the different rock structures within the canyon were beautiful. There were several little walkways that had been constructed and but amazes me how people get the tools and equipment up such steel areas to build stairs and bridges.
The Garden of Eden was a little creek like oasis between the canyon. There is a type of fern growing that dates back to before this was a desert and there were dinosaurs. Being very slow growing The had survived in the damp areas and there was one, not the biggest we seen, that was labeled as being over 400 years old.
Everyone enjoyed the walk and we completed it in under 3 hours with enough time to get back, shower then enjoy the sunset from a viewing platform near the caravan park.
We decided to head to the Thirst Dingo bar for dinner and a few drinks, certainly not cheap but it was nice to enjoy the live music. We spent as much on three rounds as it would cost for a carton!
During dinner a dingo trotted past the pub on his way somewhere, probably just looking for some stray food.
