Today we fly to Melbourne, a city that we have both been looking forward to after hearing about its chilled out vibe and the fact we were meeting up with a few of our travel buddies from Asia. We were picked up from the airport by a friend of my Dads, Deb. Deb is one of the friendliest most relaxed people we have met and we were so glad to be staying with her during our Melbourne visit. After a long day of travelling we went for a walk around the lake close to Debs house before being treated to dinner.
Our first full day in Melbourne consisted of a stop at the information centre for Morgane to pick up her trusty map and to find out what was going on in the city during our stay. We met up with outr travelling pal Charlie and had a wander before stopping for tapas. The old style trams in Melbourne are amazing, in one day you will spend no more than $7 for as many trips. As great as they are, its pretty scary getting off in the middle of the road.....at least the cars stop, most of them anyway!
Friday was a big day. I had an interview with a sports coaching company who had said that they could offer me full time hours until the beginning of April....perfect!! After a 2 hour journey, with sweat dripping down my back I arrived at my interview. After filling out the most amount of paperwork possible and being offered the job, the boss then told me that infact they could only offer 5 hours a week. After travelling out of town in my best outfit, walking in the blistering sun, this left me less than impressed. After sounding off about being given false information I left, this job hunt is really getting us down. Decision made.......we are off to India!! Australia is a beautiful country with so much to see and do but unfortunetly for us it just hasnt meant to be.
The rest of the week we spent mooching around the city, finding our bearings and speanding time with Deb. Deb has booked us in to a hotel in Mornington Peninsula for the weekend, she has been so generous its incredible and has made our trip to Melbourne so far one to really remember! Our first stop was to Phillip Island to see Seals Rock, a common haunt for seals and whales in the area....not today, we didnt see any. It is lovely to see a different part of the country. After checking in and doing a quick essentials shop (vino!), we headed to the Peninsula hot springs. A collection of 28 mineral baths ending at the top of the hill to watch sunset, we timed it right to get to the top at the right time....as had 25 other people. I tried to shift as many people out of the pool as possible by telling them the ticket man was in the car park clamping lots of cars...this didnt work so we ended up getting cosy in the tub with the rest of the sunset watchers! The next day we left the hotel and drove to Sorento (not in Italy!), a beautiful beach, possibly the best in Aus so far. This afternoon we drove back to St Kilda for the music festival. We found ourselves meeting up with Debs friends in the small stage area where live bands were playing and cider was a plenty. The sun was shining, cider in hand watching live music....perfect end to a great weekend.
Woke up this morning to an email from the Indian consulate saying our visas were ready, first thing we did was book our flights! India here we come, 1 week and counting. We ventured into town and met our good pal Rosie for a reunion drink and catch up, will really miss her when we leave Aus! Tonight we did the most touristy thing yet, went to the Neighbours trivia night at The Elephant and Wheelbarrow pub in St Kilda, it was the most car crash night ever....we loved it. Did we mention we met Karl Kennedy?! Bucket list TICK!
Our final weekend in Melbourne was spent with Deb treating us like princesses. We headed to an AFL game, all of us clueless to the rules so adopted a nice Aussie gent so he could explain. After a quick 10 minute explanation I was in love with the sport, not sure the girls would agree! A great night had all the same. It has been a pleasure staying with Deb and we are both eternally grateful for her making our trip to Melbourne so special. This is our final stop in Australia and we have mixed feelings about leaving this beautiful country. Excited to get to a new culture in India, but sad to say a final goodbye to Deb, Rosie, Katie and Charlie, friends who have made this leg of the trip so amazing and unforgetable. We will certainly be back sometime in the future...watch this space.

deb Bless you both - making me cry when I read this (although surprised not to see a mention of cricket and the brazen hat theft ;-)). Continue to have a crazy mad time and remember no matter when or where, my door is always open (If there are any burglars reading this I dont mean that literally) Hugs xx
