The past few days have consisted mostly of recovering from our epic New Year, being kicked out of our squatters paradise and taking in the sights of the Bondi to Coogie walk but it was now time to venture out of our comfort zone of Sydney City centre and start seeing the sights that this country holds. Our first adventue starts with five of us all piling into the blue passion wagon and heading towards the Blue mountains. (just for you Bartlett) We were joined on our journey by our two posh English boys who we had been staying with in Sydney over Christmas and New Year. Ben and Charlie. Ben being a man liking the finer things in life and Charlie who was ok with eating sausages and plain iceburg lettuce for every evening meal.
We also had Richie, a straight talking Irishman who made all comments into a filthy innuendo. We were definitely a mix. We made tracks towards Katoomba , a large town and home home to the Three sisters Rock formation. Which, in Ben's words were "average at best" After speaking to information, we headed to Blackheath where we were told about a few free campsites. We were definitely back to the backpacker lifestyle! Our campsite, which was right on a cliff edge was spectacular. Who needed running water and flushing toilets? After a dinner of bbq'd sausages and you guessed it, salad on one of Australias greatest offerings, the free council maintained bbqs we headed back to the campsite for gas fired marshmallows and star gazing.
Our second day of our insight into the Blue mountains involved a good old fashioned breakfast feast in a gorgeaous little cafe in Katoomba and a drive all along the tourist roads stopping every 10 minutes so that we could take photographs then quickly jumping back into the car before I freaked out and stropped off about the amount of flies landing on my face. No one warns you about the flies. The Blue Mountains really were a sight to see, the landscape is incredible and such a different side of Australia than we had already seen. Our second night was spent in another free campsite in a Vally of the mountains where we had been promised sightings of kangaroos hoping around the tents. Unfortunately we saw no kangaroos but Carly was kept awake most of the night by what we now know as testosterone filled koalas mating calls. Or in her descriptions, monster noises.
