Managed to get a lift around the painted monasteries with the couple we met from sheffield. The monasteries are really quite spectacular and the detail the painters have put into their work is very impressive, every bit of wall in the churches was originally covered. We arrived in a beautiful village in the mountains to find that the hostel was booked. The owners were kind enough to make an extra bed for us. It's a lovely place and feels very much like being in a home away from home which is nice after being stuck in minivans all day in extreme heat. We made it after a rather interesting taxi ride with a driver who we think was also smuggling things across the boarder. Now enjoying the luxury that is air conditioning, cold drinks, toilets you don't need to squat over and food that doesn't have a single potato in sight.
