The first evening at Yosemite Westlake RV Park was filled with serenity, birds singing, and we are surrounded by lush forest. The camp is smaller than most with nearly all tent campers - too chilly and too easy for bears and mountain lions to get in for my comfort. Interestingly, on our slow (15 mph) climb up to the campround, there was a bicyclist taking a break on one of the hills; an hour or so after we arrived, he rode his bike in and set up his tent just a short ways from our camp...way too much work for my enjoyment. In just a few hours after setting up camp I saw a Northern goshawh, an American kestrels, an acorn woodpecker, Western wood-pewees, a dusky flycatcher, Steller's jays, White breasted nuthatches, a Red beasted nuthatch, Cassin's vireos, a Yellow-rumped warbler, White crowned sparrows, and a Hermit thrush. The area is filled with birds. As the sun sank behind the mountains, coolness filled the air and the soounds of birds slowly faded into the darkness. As I crawled into my warm bed and raised the shade, the ground glistened with the moon over-head; as it disappeared beyond sight, the stars filled every opening between the trees and appeared as a blanket of twinkling lights. The night brought a beauty with such contrast it was almost difficult to close my eyes for sleep. It was a very good night in Yosemite.
