Red lechwe Okavango delta Botswana
Red lechwe are medium-size marshland antelope. They eat aquatic plants. They use the knee-deep water as protection from predators. Their legs are covered in a water-repellant substance which allows them to run quite fast in knee-deep water, but they are slow and clumsy runners on land. They Prefer grasses, water plants, green leaves, and the buds of flowers and fruits. In Southern Africa the Red Lechwe is found only in the Okavango swamps in Botswana and the Linyanti swamps of the Caprivi Strip, Namibia.
