It was founded in 1680 and run by the Order of the Discalced Carmelites. The first nuns arrived in Guatemala in 1677 from Peru. Construction was completed around 1687. As happened with other buildings, earthquakes damaged the construction, but in this case not destroyed. It suffered severe damage in 1751 with another earthquake and eventually married in 1773 its total destruction.
