The plaza faces the harbor and was developed in the 16th century when Spanish galleons stopped by. In the 1500's there was a market with the church erected in 1608. This building is a forrmer commodities market erected in 1909. It was restored in 1998 to provide office space for foreign companies with joint ventures in Cuba.
