Hello everyone,
So on 26th August we took the Greyhound from Coffs Harbour to Byron Bay. Byron is a fairly small, nice town with a hippy/surfer sort of vibe and is very popular with backpackers like us. We arrived during the evening and headed to our accommodation, a lively backpacker hostel called Arts Factory Backpackers Lodge. The place was really nice, but to our annoyance we were woken up by this drunk Irish girl who decided to talk to her friend really loudly on the phone in the early hours of the morning whilst leaning against our door. Then later some people started playing guitar and singing next to us. It's safe to say we got very little sleep that night but we heard them all getting kicked out so that was OK! I know we sound like a right pair of losers but it really was annoying!
The next morning we walked into the town and hired some surf boards from a local surf shop. We spent half the day surfing in beautiful, sunny weather and great surf which was brilliant. Though there was a strong current which kept pulling us along the beach which made it really hard work. I can't say we're pros yet but we had fun. We were also a bit worried about sharks but apparently they have nets there so were fairly relaxed. For the rest of the day we just ate fish and chips and had an explore around the town. Thankfully we got a much better night sleep on our second night!
We caught our next bus to Surfers paradise on Wednesday 28th August.
Lots of love,
Jo and Ryan xxx
