"Vamos Argentina!!" That´s what everbody in the bar yelled while watching the Argentina vs Venezuela soccer game last night. So the Argentines had a great party night after their 4-0 win... But at the actual party--it was Norway (represented by Helene) that beat the South American competitors in the on-stage butt shaking dance-off. The price, a bottle of fancy champagne was consumed with great pleasure. Oh yeaH !
Allright, so although we´re having a blast partying every single night--the Argentine daily rythm is challenging for two girls arriving from where the clubs close at 2 am. Argentines have dinner around 11 pm and hang out in bars from midnight where they warm up for the boliches (night clubs). Going to the club before 2 am is a no-no. The party reaches the hights between 3 and 4 am and lasts untill 8 am, when people have a pleasant breakfast before going to bed. Getting up for early morning sightseeing--is KIINDA problematic...
Although we we sleep through most of the day--the party scene is SOOOOO worth it! The clubs are off the HooooooK, and everywhere--from low key clubs to VIP & celeb entrances only. The guys really know how to bust those moves, and we´re having a hard time following their insane hip wiggling! Night life here can´t be compared to Norway--or anywhere else we´ve been for that matter... The streets are most crowded between 10 pm and 8 am!
The lovely thing about travelling is never knowing what the day is gonna bring us... Take one; So we got a little annoyed with the taxi driver giving us incorrect directions for a night club we were headed to. "Damn it... So let´s ask someone. Those guys look pretty hot..." So we went and asked them if they knew where it was, and the invited to sit down. We sat and talked to the group for a while, they were all really nice and worked together for a tv-news channel. Although being a little sceptical to their credibility, we joined them around the block to check out their studio. We had some good fun playing around in the news room, and joined the group to their later on VIP parties and got our free entrance, drinks and VIP passes along the way. We had so much fun dancing the night away with these people--and it wasn´t untill the day after--when the guy working at the hostel saw our studio pictures--that we realized who we had been hanging out with. "Oh my GOD! Daniel Tognetti?!!? You girls are crazy--you went partying with these people???!" Turns out--Daniel Tognetti is one of the most famous news reporters in Argentina. We were like, wow... Had we known that, we would probably have been a looot more nervous to rock that dance floor...
They even offered us free tickets to a football game the day after--which we STUPIDLY turned down (´cuz we´re not into football). We kinda hated ourselves when we understood (with some help from our football-enthusiast hostel receptionist) that the tickets provided VIP seats at the Argentina vs Venezuela--a game of of some of the worlds best players and where Diego Maradona coached the Argentines. Guess whether or not HE hated us!?
Besides all these serendipity incidents--we have managed to sqeeze in some sightseeing around BA. Renting bikes, we went to La Boca--the birth place of the famous Argentine Tango. We ran across the world´s widest avenue, saw some great originals (by Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso and more) at the Fine Arts Museum--and we even paid a visit to the dead in the Recoleta Cementary. The graveyard was overwhelmingly beautiful--every grave looked like a little church... The famous Eva Peron (aka. Evita, the wife of President Peron) rests here with her family. We also managed to get lost in a huge parade marking the 33 year anniversary since the military coop that brought an era of dictatorship.
We can conclude that having no plan at all--was the best plan we could have for Buenos Aires! You never know what you´re gonna get;) -Forrest Gump.
That´s a small taste for you all of Buenos Aires. Also worth mentioning is the surprizing architectural similarity and the fact that people here look a lot like europeans (most have european ancestors), BUT they surely keep up the latino spirit and rythm. The city is a busteling and animated place--which we fell in love with already on day 1.
Next update will be on the winefields and rafting of Mendoza, and the charming city of Cordoba. You don´t wanna miss this;) G¨bye for now!
