Have finally made it to Hanoi!

Arrived last night at midnight- starting the day in Hoi An at 7:30am...fun! At the moment I am loving Hanoi and have already spent too much money shopping. I wandered around the city minus Antje as she stayed in Hue for the day and is flying in tonight. Talking of the flight (Hue- Hanoi) I was probably the only person for about 7 rows, talk about leg room.

So we left Nha Trang a few days ago and took an overnight bus to Hoi An from there. First thing we did....go to a tailors! I ended up having a pair of jeans made for 15pounds....will need to loose the travelling weight though before those see day light, otherwise all good. Honestly all I saw of Hoi An for the first 2 days was the bloody inside of the tailors shop and a bar, however when we eventually had a wander around (inbetween the heavy downpoors) we discovered a beautiful little town. It looks like it hasnt changed in the last 100 years! We also experienced some it its famous flooding- after exiting the resturant we were to find the street flooded about 50cm. On the wall there was a measure to the flooding on 30.09.09- it was like 2 meters!

I had many a meal with the lovely Mr. Son in the food court and window shopped the rest of the time having spent shopping money on the tailor.

The next morning, after a complicated checkout (wanting to charge us for another rooms food!) we took a bus to Hue. Antje checked into a hotel and I dumped my bag so we could wander about the Ancient city. Was really nice little place but Im glad I didnt stay as I was so sick of rain by this point and at least Hanoi is sunny! I saw the famous 'forbidden city' stylee fortress and we had lunch accidently next door our intended eatery....the sneakily called it a very similar name to catch people out and yes we fell for it!

Tomorrow Im off on a 2 day trip of Halong Bay, spending the night on a boat so we will see how my sea sickness holds up! Either way trip looks great and weather is supposed to be sunny...yay!

Probably wont be updating till New Zealand! Fly Hanoi- Bangkok on 25th then Bangkok- Auckland on 26th arriving 27th....phew!
