Hi! We are currently in Bonito, Brazil not the Pantanal like the pic above shows..that´s our next destination though!
We have moved from Foz de Iguazu where we spent a couple of days. Its just on the border after Argentina. On Friday we travelled from Argentina to Brazil and then that afternoon we took a day trip to Paraguay...3 countries in one day! We didnt really spend much time there though, it smelled really bad and there wasn´t much to do apart from market shopping. We had a barbeque at our campsite at night. The day after was a bit of a disaster as it rained A LOT!!! it started during the early hours of the morning, thunder and lightning was making us scared in our tents, and it didnt really stop all day. We visited the Itaipu dam which was quite interesting and then we went to a Bird park, which I´m sure would have been good if it wasnt bucketing rain all the time! We were supposed to then view the Iguazu Falls from the Brazilian side but everyone was completely drenched by then and decided against it, and the helicopter ride that Gayle wanted to do was cancelled due to lightning so that was a shame.
Thankfully it eventually stopped raining although the sun is hiding behind some clouds at the moment. We got to Bonito last night in time to pitch our tents just before the sun disappeared. We had stirfry for dinner and just afterwards one of the guys shouted us over to the boys toilets to see a big spider....when we got there it was a TARANTULA!!!! it was huge, not a pretty sight especially for someone as scared of spiders as us two wimps are! It started crawling about, to which the girls started screaming and running away and I (Rach) even dropped my plate which I was still holding! It was exciting but very scary. We thought it was all over but still decided to go to the toilet in groups to watch out for creepy crawlies...Gayle was in the toilet and I saw what I thought was the same tarantula crawl in the door, aaargh! It turned out that it wasnt the same one but another, even bigger one! We are here for another two nights so we will be making sure we go to the toilet in groups and we all took turns to shower in the same shower cubicle today while the rest of us kept watch for spiders haha!
We are off to visit some waterfalls tomorrow, here´s hoping there are no spiders on the go then!
Love to all
