After an exciting flight from Oz, exciting because the food didn't come in a wrapper saying 'Hungry Jacks' or 'Home Brand' and we got free booze that didn't come in a shiny wrapper then in a
box!
We arrived late at Queen Street Backpackers, our first taster of hostel in howstel world, we decided to ease ourselves in with a 6 bed dorm (3 bunk beds) as opposed to 12 bed! 4 of the beds we
occupied by Germans, its fair to say the conversation was stretched at times.
For the first 2 days we were both nursing colds and apologising to our bodies for what we had put them through in Sydney, they wouldn't forgive us until we brought Brown bread and lots of fruit
(fussy b*****s). So the 2008 detox begins until the 13th when it all goes down the toilet (literally).
While we holed ourselves up in the hostel we decided to get our heads stuck into the lonely planet and millions of brouchures available to find out just were the hell we were going. We ventured
out and did a lot of walking too and from places, getting our little legs used to not having a van. We went to the Museum on the hill and went to see a Cultural Show which included a Mauri
performance and the scary, mean, frightening Haka dance (the one from the rugby) I had to hold Aarons hand the whole way through and promise to sleep with the light on again! Oh yeah but she
forgets to mention that we went to Auckland fish market to see some big ass scary fish and I had to do the same for her!
Seen as we are on a freshly imposed alcohol ban, we werent here to sample the nightlife instead we just settled for a quiet stroll through the funky suburb of Ponsby to window shop through a
couple of cool vintage shops and walk past people eating lovely meals in the equally cool cafes.
The Sunday we booked our Magic Bus tour of both islands beginning on the Monday, very earlydoors so that means a crowbar to get out of bed, I'll let you know how it goes!
