Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road
Nice short 3 and a bit flight and we landed in 'neighbours' land! Very excited to be in OZ and hoping for slightly better and warmer weather! Drizzly and misty when we landed, but hired a nice sporty Holden SV6 for our journey along the Great Ocean Road! Our accommodation was perfect for our time here, we had a beach front lodge at Seafarers in Apollo bay, about half way along the Great Ocean Road. It was a lovely cosy lodge with wood burning stove and we made ourselves feel very much at home, nice to have a little more living space after the campervan! Dinner was locally caught crayfish which was amazing!
A few 'must see' spots on the Great Ocean Road, big important one was the twelve apostles, probably would look stunning in the sunshine but on a cold, windy Australian winters day it looked pretty spectacular with the waves crashing!
After a couple of says driving and siteseeing there was one more important stop to make before heading to Alice Springs .... The little penguins on Philip Island. A quick visit to a koala sanctuary and we headed off to watch the penguins waddle from the sea to the beach at dusk. Another tourist destination which ruined it slightly but the money helps protect these gorgeous little creatures! They are also the worlds tiniest penguins with dark blue feathers and a White tummy so they are camouflaged in the lovely blue ocean! We got great seats and it was definitely worth the trip!
