Ouch, ouch & ouch! The first few words that come to mind, I underestimated the overcast skies of Copacabana and I have paid the price I am Mike Thermadore (lobster red) and very sore. The next couple of days I will have to remain covered up in trousers and 50 plus sun cream as I wish I had done before the only down side is the souring heat and wearing anything heavier than shorts.
We did the tourist thing and we headed out opting to take the cheaper mode of transport and go it alone rather than the more pricey city tour option and took a bus. Information in hand as to where to catch it and what number we sat and waited and ended up getting the pity vote from a different numbered bus who told us to board and to sit it out until instructed to alight. We sat for over and hour and had an impromptu city tour of our own and eventually arrived at Corcovado hill which is what the statue of Christ the Redeemer sits atop. We then got in line and awaited the next train "trem do Corcovado" that took the steep climb to the top (45 degrees in some places!) then once nearing the top taking a few stair ways and escalators to the precipice.
The statue stands towering above a fantastic viewpoint of Rio, and plenty of pictures later we had a good stroll around and actually went beneath the statue in the alter built beneath it. Lots of pics and we went back down the same way, we've been we saw we photographed it. Mike & Kelly
