I spent the day yesterday in Palm Springs where even the down and outs say 'good evening sir 'and yesterday drove to Death Valley National Park in California stopping at Peggy Sue's, a retro fifties diner, for lunch. The music , the staff and the look were like stepping back in time.
Death Valley is the result of volcanic eruptions leaving over 5000 square miles of amazing rock formations of different colours complemented by sand dunes, salt flats , thermal springs and the lowest golf course in the world at 140 feet below sea level. The area holds the record for the highest temperature ever reached in the USA at 134 degrees Fahrenheit. The name death valley does not do the place justice.
It feels like being on the moon but with ninety degree temperatures and reminds me of Iceland but without the snow. Nature is an amazing thing and there is a serenity, peace and beauty about this place the likes of which I have never seen.
I walked across the salt flats today and had a taste for myself just to check it was not some tourist con.
