Day 17 and 18 - Germany / Singapore
Today we arrived at our host school at 7.30am, where the bus was waiting for us for our trip to Frankfurt Airport. We said our final goodbyes to our host families where many tears were shed. Our students have made lifelong friendships and some have already promised that they would return within the year. Many of them are looking forward to when they return back to Australia in 2018.
We arrived at Frankfurt Airport around 9.30am where we said our final goodbyes to Liam and Curtis. We had a few little hiccups trying to get through customs. Mrs Depalo forgot that she had sunscreen in her carry-on luggage and this was classified as a liquid, whilst her daughter Alix had her school pencil case in her bag which contained a calculator, earphones and a pencil sharpener. Custom Authorities scanned her bag numerous times, customs officials suggesting that she had an explosive device. This was quite a nerve racking experience.
We boarded the plane on time headed for a twelve hour flight to Singapore. Many of the students didn't sleep due to the time difference. We arrived approx. 7am at Singapore, where we were greeted by our tour guide, Ivy. Once again, we boarded another bus to Singapore Zoo. It is so….. hot and humid here. The zoo was fantastic, which the students really enjoyed. It was a shame that many of us were now feeling very tired from travelling and feeling the heat.
We checked into the hotel around 1pm, where the students could have a well-deserved rest and freshen up for dinner. The students are looking forward to exploring the town, finding a suitable place for dinner. I think rice could be a good choice, after eating pizza, pasta and schnitzel the past few weeks.
