Its been a whilesince i`ve been near a decent computer hence no bloggage ! So managed to have a good time with Lisa and Mimi n Hoi An althiugh it did rain hard on the last day resulting in a 4 hour delay at Danang airport , not very exciting . Made it down to Ho Chi Minh City otherwise and more commonly known as Saigon where we spent one eventfull night before taking off to the Mekong Delta. Lots of floating stuff here and islands so had a look at that including markets ,villages, fishfarms and coconut candy factrories! As you would expect lots of boats too so here is where i cross into Cambodia by unsupprisingly , boat.
Lovely Cambodia, Ive only got 10 days left on my visa for here and its gone super quick. I`m working backwards from present day. Phnom Pen thats not how you spell it ! Right now im sat at the Happy Guest House which has a big deck over the Lake and i`m sharing a room with Adele from Liverpool. We have just come from Sen Moneram which is in the windy and cold north east where 6 of us embarked on a jungle trek of 3 days and 2 nights. Wow ive been on some long walks before , you know , like n trails through the woods and even a vertical asent in Thailand but i was `nt prepared for the proper hard core tramp that lay ahead. Dont get me wrong it was great and now i can look back with fondness at my courage and skill !! basically there were no trails with lots of climbing and danggling by bamboo over precipises sleeping in hammocks beside the river washing in the river a great deal of sweating and a few blisters. We had two guides , Mut the comical one and ,Nan the one who knew where he was going thank goodness !they call it jungle GPS. He did not speak just led , machete in hand. SILENTLY.Woke up on my birthday to the sound of frogs singing and went to bed on my brthday shattered at 10.
Before Mondulkiri (jungle trek) i was in Ban Lung a big dusty road is being built and everything is in dusty red blanket. There is a volcanic crater lake there which is warm to swim in , Adele and I walked there and hitched a ride in a big old truck back it was quite exciting ! also had a day out with the Lake View guest house Owner Sophat and Chris the crazy german aid worker, his deaf but incerdibly loud cambodian wife ,Chi Chi , Danielle (french guy) and Adele at a local village that had the loudest Karaoke sound system in Cambodia. We had all the village kids watching the crazy white people being encouraged to dance by the lady who is responsible for keeping the village in order, dosent make sense does it. Later we went for cocktails in a construction site !
Before that was Siem Reap home to Angkor Wat and other temples. Had a great time with Mimi and Lisa , the town has a pub st and is quite swish but obviously not the reason i went there. The temples are amazing and awe inspiring we got there for sunrise over Angkor Wat and viewed all the main temples in one tiring day. You need pictures really . It made my hair stand on end !
other stuff , watching the very rare Irrawaddy dolphins in Kratie, keep getting hi jackedto local schools to give lessons, watching drunk locals drive thier motos off the road. Eating amok, fantastic food here. Losing washing. My flip flops finally died. Enjoying the quietest birthday ever ! And finally not thinking about blimin xmas ! much.
Thanks for all your birthday wishes, millions of love , hopefully i`ll manage to get some photies on soon. xxxxxx
