And gold mines line these shores. All these mines are community owned, but apparently there is very little monitoring of the impact that they are having on the local environment. Local people have free license to mine as they will. Once the gold has been removed, the red sand is deposited in the river - the waters are murky red and sadly there are no more fish here! Was pretty sobering when you saw crystal clear tributaries merge with this ugly water...
