We are currently in Jaisalmer, otherwise known as the golden city. We decided to leave behind the madness of Delhi and to head towards the Thar, or Great Indian Desert. We have our own driver 'Guti' to take us around the state of Rajasthan, the biggest in India. A fourteen day Indian road trip. Starting off in the little town of mandawa, more of farming town than tourist attraction but with cool Havelis - pretty much old mansions from the silk route days. We then went onto Bikaner where we immediately had an impromptu shower in the middle of the day upon the discovery of hot water! Next up was the little village if Khuri where we went on a camel safari before sleeping in the desert. Believe it or not on the first night they have had rain in three months. Despite our camels 'Lalau' and 'Kalau' hugely smelly farts, it was great fun.
Driving through India has been an experience itself. There have been camels, cows, goats, sheep and dogs all wandering the roads. More constant beebing, a railway crossing that stopped the traffic for a good twenty minutes, overturned trucks. Oh and more cows.
This is just a quick update and a full detailed blog will be posted when this desert tour is finished. We are off to Jodphur tomorrow - we have our buckets of hot water to wash in ordered ready!
Over and Out!
