Matt's world trek !!!!
13 hour bus treks aint good on the ass !!!!!!!!!!!, iv had better bus rides in the past anyway, i was hoping to leave the rains behing in Nha Trang but it was the same here, i arrived around 6-7am and found some good digs , (the rooms here and in Cambodia are really good for the price), then off to get some brekkie and discover what people say as the best part of central Vietnam, i had me a little trek with a Swiss guy i met (Bat), top fella, to see the historic town of Hoi An, the place had a real good vibe about it with all the buildings from the colonial era and the really small lanes - like York in a way, the town has banned any motorbikes or cars from entering the centre or around the river so this straight away is a good thing, the horns here as in all of Asia are too much, everyone uses the horn to say hello, goodbye, thankyou, or your a t*** etc, etc, so the places you visit especially the city's its just 1 big horn sounding off 24/7, but not little Hoi An and this was quality to sit and have some tucca and watch the locals cycle by in quiet-ness, we found a cool spot right on the river and the owner was really nice, giving us green tea's and a really friendly attitude, the town itself is nice and small but still things to do for a few days, we had a half-day visit to the marble mountains, its about 24km out of town and the views of the famous China beach and the Vietnamese countryside is awsome, it cost us $14 to hire a car for the full day with a driver, it was raining but was still a good day visit, also we arrived on a celebration full moon night where all the locals give offerings in the street and light little lanterns and send them along the river, it was amazing to see , the locals sitting in there small wooden boats with lantens all around them, it was a relaxing sight, also i think there was a little band on for the locals, the atmosphere was class around town, i took loads of pics but aint been able to fire them on my site, so anyone heading for little Hoi An its a loverly town where the locals are more than happy to help, and not forgeting the tailor-suit making capital of Vietnam, with over 200 shops (hard to imagine in Hoi An) , my buddy managed to buy 2 well smart suits all fitting him like a glove with 3 shirts for about 120 quid and that was prob a little more that he should have paid, the suits where class thou, i was almost having me a suit but still travelling up the coast n didn't really wanna carry suits about, so i opt-out, i was close thou , the shop owners even save your measurements and you can e-mail them with any suits you want and its on the way within a few days for prob 1/3 - 1/4 the price we pay, anyway enough retain yapping, this place is a real nice spot and iv enjoyed it here, i could spend a week if the weather was a bit better, but its still a wee bit wet so its off about 3-4 hours north to Heu for 2 days then to Hanoi for my last week in Vietnam, 1 more week is my flight and it feels good to be coming home, im thinking parmo's, sat sesh's in the Oak with the boys and seeing my little rugrat niece's and nephew, i am NOT looking forward to paying any British prices, this is serious !!!!!!!!!! i was chillin' along the waterfront @ some really nice cafe drinking beer for 10p (thats right my friends 10p a go - happy days) and it was good stuff, local ale, how good it is boy's !!!!!!!!!, my advice to anyone who goes out on the lash regular - (Haggis you would save a fortune mate) - save and travel to Asia its the same price as a night around town
, so as you prob have gathered i have enjoyed the price's here and why not - its really cheap compared to back home, so im off for a beer then up at 8am for a river trip then to Hanoi on a sleeper bus for 12 hours, this little bus has proper beds on board for $10 its well worth it (i hope), i will try to get me pics on asap, see ya.
