the ruins were pulled apart by the Spanish to build the cathedrals in Cuszco. They destroyed so much of the Inca artifacts. They melted down all the gold, silver statues etc. destroyed religious symbols as they were not catholic and wiped a large part of the Inca history out. The Incas did not have a written language therefore a lot of the history has come from Spanish observations....
