The mint was built by the Spanish i.e. indians in colonial times and silver coins were minted for the region and export to Spain. The big smiley guy at the entrance was made by a Frog after the Spanish were kicked out and is thought to be the Wine god or depicts the indians laughing in the face of the Spanish.....
