After leaving Varanasi we went to Khajuraho, a small town where they have many old kamasutra temples. We arrived before sunrise and found a decent guesthouse were we had a few more hours of sleep. Later we went for a walk around the area with most of the temples. It was really nice, hardly no people at all and the sun wasn't too hot in the late afternoon. The temples looked quite alike at a first glance, but the details where unique on every single carving. There were all sorts of sexy activities carved into the stone walls if you just looked close enough. It is pretty funny that you find this in India where sexuality is so conservative and hidden otherwise in the everyday society.
The next day we got up earlier and tried to hire a couple of scooters to go exploring. It turned out to be more complicated than we thought. Believe it or not, but they wanted to see our drivers licences to give us the bikes. Of the five of us, three had a licence, but I was the only one who had mine with me, so with that we would have only gotten one bike. And even in India it would be pretty difficult to fit five people on one scooter. It's ridiculous that they wouldn't give us the bikes, nowhere else in India have they ever asked for a licence.
We didn't have much of choice but to take a rickshaw instead. It was alright though, we got a really nice driver and he brought us to a beautiful waterfall. Closeby there was a lake where there apparently lived crocodiles, but unfortunately we didn't see any. We spotted a few antelopes and monkeys though in the wildlife sanctuary.
It was a hot day and a pretty long drive, so we stopped by the river to take a swim. Within a few minutes all the kids from the village were watching us with wide eyed curiosity.
We went to a couple of more temples before we headed back to the guesthouse. We had a nice evening with a few beers and nice food.
We left Khajuraho early next morning, leaving Mickey behind, so now it was me, Maxi, Orri and Osk. We spent most of the day on the train, sleeping and sweating, eating popcorn and drinking chai in the increasingly crowded train.
