The rain has stopped but the canal beside the aire has risen and is flowing even faster than yesterday. We are ready to leave at 09:20 but there's a con-flab at the gate over how much to pay and two vans in the way. Eventually it's sorted by an attendant and vans can leave to let the early morning queue come in, and we are through the gate at 09:50
Out of the city we join the autostrada towards Modena because the good, smooth roads will cut 2 hours off our journey, and the 54 miles cost €6.20 which doesn't seem too bad. 10 more miles bring us to Marranello, the home of Ferrari, and we park at the Ferrari Museum.
Over 3 floors are laid out some of the most beautiful road cars, historic racing cars and displays of engineering progress, including F1 engines and gearboxes, and a massive display of trophies won over the years. There are no barriers around the cars but anyone who crosses the line is soon spoken to by watchful staff. One other display, behind glass, is Enzo - Mister Commandatore - Ferrari's office with a life-size model of the man himself in trademark dark glasses.
Outside we wander around to the new Ferrari factory under construction, and then to the existing HQ, a modest gateway and painted brick building.
We look into the town but not much to see and it begins to rain so we head back. Every so often a Ferrari or two burbles past on one of the many driving experiences for sale around the town.
Back in the carpark Nick seeks shelter from the shower under the umbrella of 'Push Start Driving'. Chatting to Juan, the salesman, who says a 10 minute drive is €70 and he has automatics if required. It stops raining and Nick returns to team Mercedes to set off for the Frattore Amico we have chosen. We climb a long and winding road for 15 or so miles to our first successful FA, a a Parmigiano Reggiano approved cheese makers at Pompeano near Serramazzoni.
We are parked in a lovely paddock overlooking the Appennino mountains. We have a little walk, sit out until sunset then go inside for supper and an early night.
