Conisbee weather again, pouring rain and thick fog making it impossible to see the river banks. I went to demonstrations of Chinese embroidery, Chinese medicine and Chinese massage. At 5pm we all trooped ashore to visit Shibaozhai, a dripping gaggle of plastic poncho clad tourists. A pagoda was built as a way to access the top of a steep sided rock, and a Monastery is on the top. We didn't join the queue to walk up the 9 storeys as the cruise ships each hold about 500 passengers and there were 4 ships full. We dodged umbrellas and fended off the locals, desperate to shift their wares in the torrential rain. The government built them a shiny new shopping street and housing when the dam flooded their village, but there's no work so now they need to sell kites, silk scarves, and knick knacks. The same mass produced goods the world over, and all made here in China.
This evening was the Captain's dinner, followed by a show put on by the staff. We left when they asked for volunteers to play musical chairs.

Lynne Sorry about the rain but hope you were able to get some bargains. Captains table sounds lovely. Can't wait to hear more about the cruise experience. Love Lynne & Mal xx
