Vanuatu has been very wet, only the first four days have been sunny the rest has been like Blighty but warmer. This is supposed to be the dry season so I have been assuming this is freak weather. The locals seem to be divided on whether this is normal or not without any further elaboration. It eventually transpired the dry and wet seasons have swapped over a few years back!
So to get to the point, we have been waiting for the weather to improve before we took a dug out canoe down the Riri river.
The Riri river is amazingly beautiful, the water is crystal clear and so blue it does not look natural.
The river leads to a blue hole, basically a limestone hole fed by an underground spring. Why it is so blue, I do not know, but it is incredible to see and swim in.
On the way back it rained of course. The guide we had to take (as it is private land) steered the dug out inch perfect around trees in order to shelter from the rain and also save every foot on the route. When me and Liz took out a canoe we zig zaged everywhere.
