VIAJE QUARTO DÍA
Day four was basically spent on the bus. We went to Huelva to La Rábida, which basically was a museum of Christopher Columbus' excursion to India - aka the new world / america. We just watched a movie that made me laugh more than educate me, but we saw replica's of the three ships that were build for the trip. It was pouring rain though and again the highlight was the food - jamón flavoured ruffles (you don't have this people back home) and strawberry milk. Vacations make you feel so healthy don't you think?
Then about six more hours on the bus trying to get comfortable and to sleep. I ended up putting four cornrows into Greg's hair. Fun time. Then to the hotel where the plan was to stay in and watch a movie, paint nails do girl stuff. That quickly changed to going out because there's a disco-tech attached to the hotel. But once ready we were told that was a bad idea. I am becoming a non fan of the southern spanish and portuguese men. First in Sevilla a bar tender used "because I said so" when asking why it was a private club that night, and in Costa Caparica the guys in the hotel said to some of us to enter in the back door. But this club is weird and you need a card and ticket to enter (free) and to exit otherwise it's fifty euros in order to leave… we showed up after all this was explained to see if we could enter properly and help out or something and were looked up and down and told "six euros". Oh the feeling to get priced by a bouncer. Portugal has also been interesting with the language. Apparently in the bar a guy ordered a drink in spanish and the bar tender got pissed because "this is portugal, if you can't speak portuguese at least be a little less rude and speak english" and got literally thrown out of the club. So we have fun communicating with people. We learned thank you - obrigado - which is coming in handy a bit and making some people smile, so that's good. We learned this in a cafe/bar across from the disco while watching all the drama going down.
But Molly Juliet and I were up for some adventure - we're exchange students an in a hotel in portugal across the street from a beach… it was gorgeous, it was pitch black except when lightning went off. It was really far away, no thunder or rain, but lit up the sky and horizon every minute or so and you could hear the waves crashing and only see the white of the water. It was very beautiful; so we went skinny dipping. Which actually wasn't that cold for being the atlantic in March, we didn't get our hair wet but I ran back in to wet my face and get rid of my makeup that I put on for no reason. Then back to the little bar, this is at like three in the morning, because some other people were still there and Noah bought us celebratory beers. Day one in Portugal was full of drama but exhilarating.
