From Brisbane to Surfers - Sunshine city- Gold Coast - a surfers paradise..
Arrived in Surfers Paradise on 25 March - the famous Gold Coast, thinking perhaps I should have given Brisbane more of a chance.. but was amazed with Surfers the minute I got there. The sun was shining, we were driving by the beach to get to the hostel - hostel was a 4 bed dorm with its own bathroom (rather than the usual 8 beds/no bath). Walked to the beach and spent the afternoon sunbathing and watching hundreds of surfers run into the high waves. Something i have noticed is that surfers dont stay on their boards for very long.
But it was just like you see on T.V. Surfers Paradise has one long beach, and many high rise buildings behind it, but that somehow adds to the awe of the city. The sands are clean and pure- the water an astonishing blue and white mix. By the time i got back to the hostel i was covered in sand from head to toe- which was actually becoming a very familiar feeling ever since i left Cairns. That night i was dragged into going out with one of my roommates Ilena into a nightclub with a Canadian and some New Yorkers. The NY women were b****ing and fighting for no reason so werent even allowed in the club. This club had women walking round giving out mini pizzas! Thats brilliant!
Anyway next day and it was another beautiful day- somewhere in its 30's. I walked into the town centre, did a bit of browsing, bought Ethan the best T.Shirt ever (but you'll have to wait til I come back Suzie), did more sunbathing and on the way back (covered from head to toe in sand) i bumped into 2 of the Irish from Frazer Island. Its amazing how many people you bump into along the way. Had a beer back at the hostel and next day went onto Byron Bay.
The day I left Surfers it started raining, and it was like that in Byron. I had officially crossed the border, leaving Queensland behind, entering New South Wakes and going forward an hour. Queensland don't have daylight saving time because its sunny all the time but everywhere else does. (I just about now know what Daylight saving time is). Spent one night here. Went out into a club on my own to take advantage of the $5meal deal- it was spag bol and huge! Chatting to a couple from Switzerland who were not allowed to work but had been travelling for 14months. And I also got a free BBQ with beer. And later they did the wet T.Shirt contest. I did not participate- i wasn't that drunk. Anyway everybody up there had long blonde hair and was swedish.
Back in the hostel I was chatting to my English roommates, and 2 of their friends. One of the guys hadnt spoken to me earlier because he thought i was from Chile or somewhere on South America ! so rude. Although he did say i was 'sound' much later tho- he was prob drunk. And before i broke his camera (OOPS) . I dropped it from the top bunk and think i damaged the lense (His fault too). Quickly disappeared next morning.
Left for Coffs Harbour mid morning- because i had 2 free nights here as part of my package. Oh I have spent so much money!! Coffs harbour was fairly nice weather, i walked around the town- which wasnt that great- went into a historical museum and walked half an hour to the beach! Had a drink with Hannah the first night, and 3 drunk English girls and next day went to beach with Scottish girl (weather was so nice) and had Sunday dinner with her later. I know it sounds rude but i meet so many people, i either dont remember their names or i just dont understand.
My bus to Sydney was 8 hours long and at 1am so hung around all night waiting for the time to come. Oh i love 'The biggest loser' and 'So you think you can dance, Australia'. well now i do. T.V is so rubbish here! Nearly as bad as the chocolate. Anyway on to Sydney!
