Here begins the 17 day adventure in Costa Rica! Before meeting up with my tour group, I spent a day wandering around by myself in San Jose. The city itself is a real mixture of beauty and not so much beauty. I got the feeling that it was safer to only go out in the daytime and generally stay in the tourist areas. Needless to say, I spent my first night drinking an Imperial beer and watching Twilight (in Spanish) at a local bar. I ran home when it got dark and a few men said ola to me on the way, which just quickened my pace! The next morning I went off to find Sabana Park. It was a few kms from the hotel but it was really nice to get out and run first thing in the morning. I got a little lost on the way back because I was trying to be clever and avoid the pedestrian traffic. Really bad idea. I made it back to the hotel, though! Shopped along the main tourist areas and checked out the Gold Museum. I spent the rest of the day in the hotel. Met some wonderful Germans who shared their Malbec with me. Met with my tour group eventually! We're 7 girls from all over the world, plus our tour group leader Randy. The poor guy! We decided to go white water rafting the following day instead of having a pure travel day. It was sort of last minute but a super exciting idea!

Brenda Lajeunesse What does "ola" mean that made you run so fast? Perhaps we'll say that to you when you run your next half marathon!!!
